Some eight hundred years separate the last of the Dead Sea scrolls, copied in the second century AD, and the writing of the Aleppo Codex in the 10th century. Almost no manuscripts of the Hebrew Bible survive from this 'silent period' Of the very few exceptions, most were found in the Cairo Genizah.
